Miranda has one of the best set of eyes to look at your story. She is a timeline genius, can figure out the missing pieces of a plot or character ARC, and has the perfect balance of humor, grace, and guidance. Her ability to understand what your story needs AND offer suggestions to make it better are invaluable. Also, some of her sneaky talents are the ability to come up with the perfect title, adding details that make a story shine (like song titles, models of cars, placement of food), and helping craft a wonderfully concise summary. Your story will be in good hands if Miranda touches it.

cat tangled in yarnLet me help unravel your manuscript’s thorny plot and pacing issues. My strengths as an editor are finding inconsistencies, tracking your story’s timeline and character arcs, tying up plot loopholes, helping conform with genre expectations, and identifying pacing and structure issues. Let me be the plotter so you don’t have to. I’ll track your cast of characters, settings,  and rules of the universe for your ongoing series. I’m happy to work with groups collaborating on a shared universe series, anthology or a boxed set.

I’m experienced with romance, women’s fiction, speculative fiction (science fiction and fantasy), contemporary, mystery (including suspense and thriller) and memoir. I’ve worked with adult, young adult (YA) and middle grades (MG) age categories.  I’m a member of the Professional Editors Network (PEN) and the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA), and my rates are consistent with EFA’s guidelines.

Working with Miranda has brought my writing to a whole new level. We started together from a developmental perspective when I was still a very new author. Her deep-dive edits taught me about story structure, character arcs, and how to achieve a deeper point-of-view. Her advice and critiques are always on-point, but she doesn't stop there. She also provides ideas and suggestions on how to improve the weak points, which help inform my editing decisions. Not to mention amazing story timelines! Now that I'm self-publishing, I'm working with her not just as a developmental editor, but also as a copyeditor. One of the best parts about her copyedits is how she understands my authorial voice and never detracts from it, while still ensuring I'm adhering to a consistent set of guidelines. Her style guides are invaluable for helping with this.
I simply can’t say enough about Miranda Darrow and how much her knowledge has helped my manuscripts. She digs deep into the story, getting a true understanding of the characters and their conflicts, and offers insightful suggestions and advice on how to make the pages come to life. There have been several times when I felt some of my scenes were flat. Miranda was able to take a look and immediately offer suggestions to make them pop. She tells you what works, but also points out what doesn’t work or doesn’t make sense and provides ways to fix it. Thanks to Miranda, my manuscripts are stronger—one of them has even won a few awards since I made her suggested revisions! I recommend her services to anyone who wants to take their story to the next level.
